No Refusal Weekend
APD announces another 'no-refusal weekend' during ROT Rally
KVUE — The Austin Police Department has announced two safety initiatives for the Republic of Texas Bike Rally this weekend. A no-refusal policy will be in place beginning 9 pm Friday and running until 5 am Sunday.
During the initiative, any suspected drunk driver is required to submit to a blood or breath test or be served with a warrant to get a blood sample.
APD will also join 21 other Central Texas law enforcement agencies in conducting the Arrive Alive Central Texas initiative beginning at 6 am on Thursday and ending 6 pm on Sunday. The initiative encourages safe driving and seeks to reduce fatalities on area roadways.
Police say 254 crashes happened in Austin during last year's ROT Rally weekend. Three people were killed and 54 were injured in these crashes. 126 people were arrested for DWI that weekend.
