Cruz Has Feelings
At this point in his political career, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been on the receiving end of a profanity or two. That probably didn't lessen the sting of Sunday's True Blood episode in which Eric Northman and Pam De Beaufort (played by Alexander Skarsgard and Kristin Bauer van Straten, respectively), head to a fictional gala in support of the very non-fictional Ted Cruz.
Preparing for the event, the two characters bemoan attending a GOP fundraiser. The exchange, which is profanity-laced, includes a clever but crass portmanteau using "Republican" and a four-letter word that we just won't publish. (The Dallas Morning News, which also has a brief appearance in the show, has a transcript here.) Some of the gala attendees — presumably Republicans — end up dead.
On Tuesday, Cruz responded to the episode, taking to Facebook to voice his reaction.
Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBO's True Blood vampire show would have to be near the top of the list. Sunday night, they aired a misogynist and profanity-ridden episode where Texas Republicans are murdered attending a "Ted Cruz fundraiser." Well, I'm sorry to have lost the vampire vote, but am astonished (and amused) that HBO is suggesting that hard-core leftists are blood-sucking fiends.... (sic)
Ah, yes, if there is anyone who can best identify misogyny, it's certainly a man who voted no on reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.
