Puppy Power
Four-legged fundraiser: Best Friends Animal Society brings Strut Your Mutt toAustin
Owners, get your puppies started. There's some important fundraising to be done.
Without a doubt, it takes a lot of support to maintain the No Kill status throughout the city's animal shelters. Keeping that many orphaned and stray animals alive means more food, more space and more volunteer hours.
Austin's hardworking animal health nonprofits have teamed up to form the first Austin instance of BFAS's annual Strut Your Mutt donation event going on now through the end of the month.
While local organizations like Austin Pets Alive! and national ones like Best Friends Animal Society are working every day to ensure that all animals receive the kind of care and love they need, they cannot do it alone. Fundraising is a necessary element of their nonprofit missions.
Therefore, Austin's hardworking animal health nonprofits have teamed up to form the first Austin instance of BFAS's annual Strut Your Mutt donation event going on now through the end of the month.
Organizations like APA, Shadow Cats and Big Dog Rescue, Inc. have all formed their own "dog packs" to raise money to donate to the overall BFSA fundraising goal for Austin.
APA, for example, has set a lofty donation goal of $40,000 for this year's fundraiser, and they are already a quarter of the way there. Strut Your Mutt takes the place of their former Save a Life Drive as their annual donation-based fundraiser, so this is the only time they will ask their supporters to collect pledges on their behalf.
Individual fundraisers and team captains can set up their own Strut Your Mutt donation goals that will be added to the overall totals raised by larger dog packs and BFAS. 100 percent of funds raised for an organization will go directly toward supplies and medicines for cats and dogs in shelters.
At the conclusion of the donation drive, pet lovers are invited to attend the First Annual BFAS Strut Your Mutt Austin party at Mueller Lake Park on Sept. 29 to celebrate the collective effort of Austin's commitment to No Kill shelters.
Starting at 7 a.m., dog owners are invited to join in the leisurely dog walk around the park followed by a day-long festival including costume contests, activities for kids and pets, plenty of chances for canine interaction and, of course, new friend adoption.
There's never been a better time to get active in the effort to save the lives of Austin's sweet-faced, four-legged friends. So gather up your pups, y'all and Strut Your Mutt.
