KVUE — The U.S. Department of Justice will not accept the city's invitation to look into the tactics of Austin police officers.
City manager Marc Ott received a letter from the federal government this week saying they were declining to look into whether officers abided by departmental policy. They also declined to assess the police department's relationship with the community.
The city's request came on the heels of the high-profile shooting in late July of Larry Jackson after a foot chase that began outside a Central Austin bank.
Police have said that Jackson tried to get inside the locked bank, which had been robbed earlier that day and fled when APD detective Charles Kleinert tried to question him.
