Pflugerville Pride
Austin's 'pfriendly' neighbor named one of the best places to live in America
Austin's "Pfriendly" neighbor to the north has been named one of the best places to live by Money magazine.
Pflugerville landed at No. 20 on the publication's recently released list of the "Best Places to Live in America," which compared 781 cities. Researchers factored in a host of elements, including the local economy, housing market, schools and healthcare costs, to create the list. (We should note that Money only looked at small cities — those with populations of 50,000 to 300,000 — so Austin wasn't eligible.)
One of the fastest-growing cities in the state, Pflugerville's affordable homes, strong school system and water sports are a huge selling point, notes Money. And while Pflugerville's claim to fame was its regular appearance in the cult television favorite Friday Night Lights, "it’s drawing interest from another big crowd — people with jobs in Austin, 16 miles away."
Money also had a little "Pfun" with the town's affinity for unique spelling. "Pfancy a Pfest? Pflugerville’s got ‘em: there’s the summertime Pfirecracker Pfestival, the Pfall Chili Pfest, monthly Pfirst Pfridays and weekly Pfarmers Market, all held around its small downtown."
Two other Texas cities landed on the list. McKinney took top honors (No. 1) followed by Mansfield (No. 17).
