4 fun things for families to do around Austin this fall
With the obligatory pumpkin patch photo ops behind us, and hopefully the Halloween candy reserves dwindling, it’s time to turn your thoughts to the real beauty of fall in Texas. For new families, rest assured, sweater weather will be here ... any day. And when it does arrive, we have a host of ideas for soaking up the glorious weather that Austin is known for this time of year.
Whether it’s a day trip or something right within the city limits, we’ve got you covered for family-friendly, fall fun.
Barton Hill Farms
If you missed the pre-Halloween scramble to the very popular Barton corn maze, you still have time. Open through November 13, Barton Hill Farms boasts the best corn maze around, as well as other fall diversions. Pumpkin patch and friendly farm animals make this place worth the drive.
Boggy Creek Farms
Having a farm within the city limits is a testament to the farm-to-table culture that makes Austin so incredible. One of the city’s older farms, Boggy Creek Farms, has been bringing fresh produce and more to families since the 1990s. Market Days at the farm are the perfect way to spend a weekend day, perusing the shelves for homemade jams and pickles, while kiddos roam the farm and check in on the chickens. Fall hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 8 am to 1 pm.
Fossil Fest
Have a kid that loves all things dino? The 26th annual Fossil Fest comes to Round Rock, November 19-20. Fun fossil activities include the meet a scientist Q&A and hands-on demo, hands-on fossil touch table, and more.
Texas Renaissance Festival
Throw on the old peasant blouses and tunics and get thee to the Texas Renaissance Festival, through November 27. This family-friendly event has something for all ages, including jousting contests, live music, and delicious food and drink options (including wine tastings for parents).
