The Austin Humane Society (AHS) assisted in a rescue effort involving more than 50 dogs living on a single property in Comanche County, about two-and-a-half hours northwest of Austin, on Sunday, January 7.

AHS says that in a coordinated rescue with other animal welfare groups, it transferred 13 chihuahua mixes to its shelter Sunday afternoon. AHS says the dogs had been living outside or in vehicles on the property.

The 13 dogs taken in by AHS range in age from about 10 weeks to 6 years old, and the organization says the dogs were suffering from flea infestations and some minor skin issues but otherwise appear healthy. The dogs seem to be chihuahua mixes, according to AHS, and are undergoing medical evaluations.

The organization says the dogs could be made available for adoption as soon as Monday afternoon.

Adoption inquiries can be made on the AHS website.
