Get ready for latest round of Hollywood star sightings as 7 Chinese Brothers begins Austin shoot
Don’t be surprised if you notice well-known actors Jason Schwartzman and Olympia Dukakis strolling the streets of Austin in the coming weeks.
Schwartzman and Dukakis will be in town to shoot 7 Chinese Brothers, written and directed by Austin filmmaker Bob Byington (Harmony and Me, Somebody Up There Likes Me). Filming is scheduled to start later this month and should last about four weeks, according to Seana Flanagan of Austin, producer of the big-screen comedy.
Flanagan said 7 Chinese Brothers zeroes in on “a man trying to get unstuck.” The film is set for release in 2015 — 14 years after Byington penned the script.
“Most of the crew is local,” Flanagan said. “Some of the cast is joining us from out of town, but we’ll cast local talent as well.”
Schwartzman’s film roles include Rushmore and I Heart Huckabees, while Dukakis has appeared in movies such as Moonstruck, Steel Magnolias and Mr. Holland’s Opus.

Byington’s previous film, Somebody Up There Likes Me, premiered in 2012 at SXSW. A Texas Monthly article about the movie dubbed Byington “one of those best-kept secrets that fans prefer to keep to themselves, for fear that if everyone knows about him, he won’t seem nearly as cool.”
