SXSW Film Is Complete
SXSW Film adds more silver screen legends to an already stellar lineup
As the clock ticks closer to SXSW 2014 opening for business, SXSW Film has placed the final bow on its gift to film fanatics, announcing a keynote speaker, several additions to the film screening lineup, and adding silver screen icons taking part in the featured Conversations sessions.
The final keynote speaker swinging into action will be Marc Webb, director of countless music videos, the cult classic (500) Days of Summer, the latest blockbuster superhero series, The Amazing Spider-Man and its forthcoming sequel, set to release on May 2. Webb also received various MTV Video Music Awards for his work with bands including Green Day, AFI and All-American Rejects. Webb is the opening keynote speaker for SXSW Film, joining Lena Dunham, Jason Blum and Casey Neistat.
At the SXSW Conversations sessions are filled with star power. Tilda Swinton will open up the Conversations, discussing her work in Jim Jarmusch’s new film Only Lovers Left Alive, as well as her decorated acting career. In addition, two comedic actors will discuss their directorial debuts: Jason Bateman of Arrested Development fame will talk about his film Bad Words when it screens as SXSW, and Mike Myers of Wayne’s World, Austin Powers and Shrek is set to discuss Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.
British cartoonist Ralph Steadman, best known for his work with Hunter S. Thompson, will discuss his career creating iconic artwork. The Conversations sessions announcement is complete with screen legend Robert Duvall. He will discusses his long and fruitful career from To Kill a Mockingbird and beyond with Leonard Maltin acting as the moderator.
SXSW Film also announced an additional eight features to the film-screening lineup, bringing the total count to 133 features, including 89 world premieres. The additions include May the Best Man Win, Yakona and For Those About to Rock. The story of Rodrigo y Gabriela.
