Damon Albarn hints at career-spanning set list for SXSW appearance
Editor's note: This SXSW spotlight was selected by Austin music champion and face about town, Adi Anand. You can read more from Adi's blog, From the Mind of Adi, via Do512.
Name: Damon Albarn
Featured track: "Everyday Robots"
City of origin: London, England
Genre: Singer-songwriter
In one sentence: A superstar in the U.K., and a legend in most parts of the world, Damon Albarn spearheads seminal Brit-pop band Blur, is the main man behind “virtual” act Gorillaz, has meddled with the super-group that is The Good, the Bad & the Queen; and he is set to release a solo album this year.
Why we chose him: Albarn is likely to end up in most “must-not-miss” lists at this year’s SXSW (or he should, anyway), and for good reason. Besides previews off Everyday Robots, out April 29 and featuring collaborations with the likes of Natasha Khan (a.k.a. Bat for Lashes) and Brian Eno, Albarn has hinted at a career-spanning set list for upcoming shows, which has long-standing fans and Anglophiles salivating for a lengthy show at SXSW.
