During SXSW, Chicago-based indie music bible Pitchfork took over the Mohawk for two days of showcases. It should go without saying, but Pitchfork has a knack for spotting early talent — and the lineup was a testament to how well the blog has its ears to the ground.
There were a couple of easy wins like Win and Will Butler of Grammy-winning band Arcade Fire (who DJ'ed and performed live, respectively). The showcases also put fresh ears on up-and-coming acts like Speedy Ortiz, Alvvays and Steve Gunn.
What really grabbed us was that these artists strike at the core of what the Red River Cultural District is all about.
