Sleigh bells will be ringing
Clusterfest 2012 brings bands including Sleigh Bells and Black Joe Lewis toSouthwestern University
Clusterfest2012, which starts at 5:00 P.M. today at the Corbin J. Robertson center of Southwestern University in Georgetown, is only in its second year, but judging by some of the acts they've pulled, you'd have no idea.
This year noise-pop duo Sleigh Bells will be headlining the show, with performances from local favorites like Black Joe Lewis and Mother Falcon. The festival is still young, but that can only help when they are still able to book such popular acts.
Because Clusterfest is still relatively unknown, tickets remain a completely favorable $25 at the door. And considering they have a full night of music lined up, with eleven different bands, food available from Hat Creek, Amy's and The Peached Tortilla along with several other activity booths, that price is a steal. Oh, and the parking is free.
Last year, the festival's inaugural year, had an excellent lineup in its own right. With Matt and Kim headlining, Del the Funky Homosapian and The Bright Light Social Hour (along with a few other acts) playing in front, the festival got off to a strong start.
As the festival continues to grow, the folks at Southwestern University will be able to attract more and more big names, and at a festival that's still cool, that's an exciting prospect.
In a city dominated by big name music events, it's great to see our city-limit neighbors launch smaller, but packed with good music, counterparts so successfully. The contined success of Clusterfest not only helps Georgetown, but also Austin by extension.
So take the short drive up 35 tonight and help a budgeooning music festival grow. One thing to look forward to, besides all of the great music — the entire event will likely be cluster-free.
