Familiar faces and cool surprises announced for Fun Fun Fun Fest comedy stage
In May, music fans learned about the killer lineup of bands appearing at Fun Fun Fun Fest this year (returning to Auditorium Shores November 7-9). And now, the fest is celebrating the first day of July with the announcement of the Yellow Stage lineup, featuring comedians who will make you laugh while you wait for Judas Priest to take the stage.
Leading the comedy lineup will be Saturday Night Live alum and Portlandia co-creator Fred Armisen, who is no stranger to performing in Austin. Armisen previously performed at the 2014 Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival and has made numerous appearances at SXSW for panels and performances.
Other headliners include Thomas Middleditch and Kumail Nanjiani, both of whom star in the hit HBO comedy series from Mike Judge, Silicon Valley. And perhaps the most intriguing name on the list is none other than cult filmmaker John Waters, who will perform a spoken word set at the festival.
The latest announcement also confirms the return of everyone’s favorite piece of taco artillery. Let’s just hope that Austin doesn't find itself in another prolonged Taco Cannon War. Once again, the lineup features everything from stand-up comedy to improv sketch groups with a veggie hot dog eating contest thrown in for good measure.
The Yellow Stage lineup includes: Fred Armisen, John Waters (spoken word), Thomas Middleditch and Kumail Nanjiani, Neil Hamburger, W. Kamau Bell, Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys (spoken word), Jon Daly, Joe Mande, Har Mar Superstar, Jonah Ray, Rachel Bloom, Chris Cubas, Jimmy O. Yang, Jake Flores, Doug Mellard and Chris Trew. Other attractions for the stage include Air Sex Championships, wrestling matches, the Altercation Punk Tour, Master Pancake’s Morning Cartoons, Bad Example and the FFF Dating Show.
Three-day passes and single-day passes are currently on sale. Festival organizers also ask fans to stay tuned for forthcoming announcements on the “skate and ride” action sports lineup, FFF Nites, the Aqua Olympics and the annual scavenger hunts, taking place across Texas.
