Fun Fun Fun Fest teams up with turntable.fm for today's lineup release
After months of rumors and leaks, the official Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup will be released today at 1 pm.
People who have had tickets for months will finally know who they’ll see this November 4-6 at Auditorium Shores. If you haven't picked up your pass yet, don't worry—this afternoon, you’ll have one more chance to get yours, after the announcement. But be fast! The first batch of FFFF tickets went on sale June 1st and quickly sold out, despite the fact that nobody knew who was on the lineup. Two weeks ago, the second round of pre-sales lasted less than a day.
There are a lot of eyes on this afternoon's release. And almost as awesome as the news itself is the way the FFF folks are releasing it: by spinning tracks from appearing artists at turntable.fm.
“The site for people to gather in "rooms," play music, and feel embarrassingly giddy when friends and strangers vote their approval is still in beta mode but already one of the most addicting internet developments in recent memory,” explains Edith Zimmerman at The Hairpin.
Turntable seems to be at a tipping point, with dozens of themed rooms attracting 100+ person crowds even at odd hours (Coding Soundtrack and Indie While at Work, two of the most regularly populated playlists, both had people waiting to step on the decks at 4 am this morning). While tons of sites have tried to merge music and social networking, turntable.fm has found solid footing with a simple chat feature, adorable avatars and a search box that magically (legally?) pulls up nearly any song you'd like to add to your set.
Today at noon, staff members at FFF Fest HQ will sign in at turntable.fm/fun_fun_fun_fest.
Starting at 1 pm, they'll play their favorite tracks from this year's performers while festival fans socialize and comment on the lineup as it's released.
We already know that Brian Posehn, Okkervil River, Odd Future, M83, X, Ra Ra Riot, Kid Dynamite, Tune Yards, Flying Lotus, Reggie Watts, Slayer and Murder City Devils are on the lineup. There's not much time left for speculation—who do you hope is on the list?
