Stars in your eyes
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dolph Lundgren headed to Austin for Fantastic Fest
The Alamo Drafthouse released their second wave of programming for the 2012 Fantastic Fest, and we're overjoyed to see some amazing offerings for fans of new and old action films alike.
First up, fresh off his Dark Knight Rises turn as Christopher Nolan's Robin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be in town to introduce his new futuristic time-travel film, Looper, which stars JGL as the contract mercenary sent with the impossible mission of killing his future self, played by Bruce Willis.
Director Rian Johnson will also be in attendance with JGL to answer your inevitable questions about time travel and what happens to the time-space continuum after you kill your future self.
Next up, this year's Fantastic Fest will also feature the world premiere of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, a follow-up to the popular series of badass zombie soldier movies starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. (Did you see the trailer before Expendables 2?)
This time around, Undisputed star Scott Adkins joins in the fight, and you'll get to meet him and Lundgren up close and personal at their FF appearance as well. All I'm saying is, hopefully, we'll see Lundgren in the boxing ring with Tim League this year...
Also official now is the full line-up for the ABCs of Death, the Drafthouse Films horror compilation by some of the biggest names in the genre. On the list of directors offering one of the 26 ways to die are: Ti West, Nacho Vigalondo, Kaare Andrews, Jake West and Adrían Garcia Bogliano.
Who knows which of these directors will be in attendance, but we're hoping all 26 of them will show up to share in the joy of all the carnage and terror.
Fans of the documentary Best Worst Movie, the film that captures the cult following of the satisfyingly terrible movie Troll 2, will be ecstatic to know that director Michael Paul Stephenson will be in attendance at Fantastic Fest as well to premiere his latest work, The American Scream.
This documentary follows three houses in a Massachusetts neighborhood that take Halloween extremely seriously each year and try to top one another with their over-the-top theatrics.
These are our latest picks for the must-sees at this year's Fantastic Fest. Remember, of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all of the entertainment and celebrity appearances that happen at the Alamo during the biggest genre festival in the country.
Every year, we're delighted to see the biggest names in the industry just show up, stating that this week in September is without a doubt their favorite time of the year. How can you possibly pass up that kind of recommendation?
Festival badges and individual tickets are available now through the Fantastic Fest website.
