Kelly Clarkson cancels lavish wedding but still plans "happily ever after" ending
The lavish October wedding between Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock is off. And although Clarkson knows all too well that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, in this case, the Dallas pop singer is canceling her wedding in favor of eloping.
In an interview with People magazine, Clarkson, 31, said the couple opted to elope considering their busy schedules and a desire for privacy. "We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking," Clarkson told the magazine.
The couple is planning an intimate ceremony with Blackstock's two children and a minister in attendance. The news of Clarkson's untraditional wedding comes on the heels of her new music video celebrating marriage ceremonies.
"Tie It Up" includes lyrics such as "Let's set the date; let's hire a band; let's cut the cake; tie up the cans." The song shows real-life wedding footage of gay and straight couples, complete with bridesmaids, groomsmen and wild reception parties.
Clarkson will join Maroon 5 during their Austin tour stop at the Austin360 Amphitheater on September 18.
