The Pop Almanac Podcast #1: Instant Classics
Sep 21, 2011 | 1:45 pm
Presenting the first episode of The Pop Almanac!
CultureMap contributors—and resident experts on all things pop culture—Brendan K. O'Grady and Duncan Carson are proud to present the inaugural episode of this weekly podcast (expect to tune in to a new edition every Wednesday afternoon).
This week, we discuss what makes recent television shows and films "instant classics"; Breaking Bad is so popular that it screens weekly at the Alamo Drafthouse, but will it make the cut? CultureMap Assistant Editor Samantha Pitchel pipes up to throw Party Down, a short-lived comedy she explored in-depth in June, into the ring as well.
And what about film? There's plenty to talk about, with obvious classics like The Dark Knight in play—a film subject to obsessive, shot-by-shot scrutiny only three years after release.
Will your favorites come up? Will the creators of these works of art be hurt if they don't meet Brendan and Duncan's aribtrary criteria? Listen to find out!
