ACL Eats
These are the 3 things you must eat during Austin City Limits Music Fest 2018
Some folks go to the Austin City Limits Music Festival to bask in the glory of some of music’s biggest names while others simply take selfies to prove they were at the coolest event in town. As for me, I go to hit up ACL Eats.
The pop-up food hall, this year located near the craft beer tent on the grounds, never fails to impress with a roster of Austin’s best restaurants, many of them selling dishes that can’t be found anywhere else. Although the lines move quickly, there’s no time to lollygag with this year’s packed schedule. Before heading out to Zilker Park, get ready for game day by watching our guide to the best festival feasts.
Micklethwait Craft Meats — Pulled pork mac 'n' cheese
ACL is no time to fret about eating healthy, but it’s still nice to work in a vegetable or two. Topped with shaved carrots and arugula, this gooey dish at least gives lip service to your diet plan — even if the main event is the impossibly creamy mac 'n' cheese combined with hefty shreds of the local barbecue great’s pulled pork.
Noble Pig — Tostones
The kiosk may be from the team behind Noble Sandwich Co., but the best bite doesn’t come between bread. That honor goes to the tostones, freshly fried slices of salty plantains that stay crisp far longer than fries. Get them loaded with queso and spicy picadillo for the ultimate ACL treat. And be sure to grab a few extra napkins.
Skull & Cakebones — Ice cream sandwich
The vegan bakery has brought its cupcake ice cream sandwiches back for another year and they’re still as good as ever. Because the handheld goodies are covered in frosting, they melt a little more slowly than normal, so don’t be afraid to carry them out into the crowd.
