Kacey Musgraves may be spending most of her time in Nashville now, but the “girl from Golden” still has Texas in her heart. Now, she’s surprising her home state with three days of concerts at historic Gruene Hall — known as Texas' oldest dance hall — May 3-5.

The three days of sets come hot on the heels of the release of her seventh studio album, Middle of Nowhere. The singer-songwriter has been teasing the album since March, when she released the bawdy single “Dry Spell.”

Musgraves first entered the national spotlight as a contestant on the USA Network singing competition Nashville Star. A few years later, she began breaking out on the country charts for clever songs like “Biscuits” and “Merry Go Round,” influenced by the late John Prine.

Her 2018 album, Golden Hour, catapulted her career, earning her four Grammys, including Album of the Year. Since then, she has experimented with her sound — ditching the traditional songs of her earlier albums for forays into disco, psychedelia, and pop.

During the Gruene shows, Musgraves will be supported by The Mariachi Brothers (Antonio, Caleb, and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar). The trio of McAllen teenagers became a national cause célèbre after being detained by ICE in February.

Tickets for the shows go on sale Tuesday, April 28, at 10 am for $65, plus fees. The Mariachi Brothers will perform each night at 7 pm, followed by Musgraves at 9 pm.
