Record Breaking
HAAM Benefit Day breaks records in support of musicians' health
For six years, Austin musicians, business and general music lovers have joined together for HAAM Benefit Day, a day of city-wide fundraising in the name of local musicians' health. On October 4, 2011 HAAM Benefit Day started bright and early at Whole Foods flagship market, with events taking place through the early hours of the next morning. At venues, restaurants and storefronts across town, local musicians (including Uncle Lucius, seen in the video above from Austin Music Weekly) performed while over 215 businesses donated proceeds and individuals showed support through patronage and cash donations.
By all accounts, the Sixth Annual HAAM Benefit Day was a success, and yesterday, The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians announced an official record-breaking total of $235,000.
"This was the year of record-breaking," says Executive Director Carolyn Schwartz in her announcement email. "Most businesses participating, most music performances, most volunteers, most social media buzz and most dollars raised to support musicians' healthcare!"
