The Lovers, the Dreamers, and Kacey
Willie Nelson and Kacey Musgraves to perform colorful new duet during CMA Awards

If Ken Burns' sweeping new documentary taught viewers anything, country music is brimming with iconic duets. June Carter and Johnny Cash, George Strait and Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Brooks & Dunn, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris ... the list goes on.
On November 13, the Country Music Association Awards will set the stage for another couple soon to be on that list: Willie Nelson and Kacey Musgraves.
ABC's Lara Spencer made the announcement during Good Morning America's November 11 broadcast, adding that the duo will reunite to sing The Muppets' "Rainbow Connection." Though it was previously announced that the pair would team up during the ceremony, details were not known.
"Kacey Musgraves will take center stage to perform a duet with the one and only Willie Nelson," Spencer said to a seemingly shocked Robin Roberts ("No!," Roberts proclaimed, apparently hearing the news for the first time despite anchoring the show.)
"We're learning from insiders that the pair will sing "Rainbow Connection," which is extra special for Kacey, who has been waiting for this moment since she was nine years old," Spencer said before showing a clip of Musgraves singing the song as a child.
This isn't the first time the duo has paired up, however. The Austin-based Nelson and formerly Austin-based Musgraves — we lost her to Nashville in 2008 — previously collaborated on "Are You Sure," which appeared on Musgrave's 2015 album, Pageant Material. (The music video was filmed at The White Horse, naturally.)
Wednesday night's performance will also be Nelson's first time on stage at the CMA's since 2012. Fans can check out the Musgaves-Nelson duet live on November 13 during the 53rd annual CMA Awards, airing live at 7 pm on ABC.
