The Long Center is going to get extra hot when 50 Shades! The Musical - The Original Parody arrives next week. The comedic revamp of the international best-selling Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy will be in Austin for a two-night engagement on June 3-4.
The production tells the story of a book club that decides to read the trilogy, following the women as they interpret the novel’s sensual and provocative moments. In this production, however, that interpretation takes the form of hilarious songs and dance numbers accompanied by a live band.
The musical has received rave reviews from sold-out shows in Chicago and New York, thanks to a perfect balance of sex and comedy (without being too raunchy). The New York Times says, "50 Shades! delivers the goods."
The Long Center's Heath Riddles agrees that this show is guaranteed to deliver comedy gold. "The cast is amazing and the songs are first-rate," Riddles says. "People should come to this show expecting to laugh hysterically and to really enjoy the showmanship of this production."
Based on its subject matter, the musical is for ages 18 and up, making it ideal for an evening out with girlfriends, or an alternative to the typical mid-week date night.
