Popular Latin music festival from Los Angeles releases lineup for Austin debut
There's a lot to love about Austin's music scene, but sometimes a whole lineup of live Latin music can be hard to find. One festival out of Los Angeles won't stand for that anymore, and is adding Austin to its burgeoning empire. It'll be here on March 2, 2024.
Besame Mucho Festival — regionally called Besame Mucho Austin — promises "a blend of today’s contemporary hits, timeless classics, and rock en español anthems," according to a release. The aim is to appeal to several generations of Latin music lovers — not to spread out the demographic as wide as possible, it seems, but to emphasize that it's the shared musical culture that's really bringing these fans together.
Los Angeles Daily News reported that the first-ever Besame Festival sold out in just 70 minutes — how that for proof of concept? In its original form, wrote the California-based Press-Telegram, the musical event also hosted visual artists and food vendors. That doesn't look like the case in Austin, unless organizers are waiting to add those details to the website.
Right now, all we have in Austin is a lineup; but with 80 acts listed, that's more than enough. Some notable visitors include Grupo Frontera, Gloria Trevi, and Juanes, plus the division of stages suggests that as long as visitors have an idea of what genre they want to hear, they'll find something they like even among the smaller print. The four stages will direct audiences to banda, rock, pop, and "las clasicas."
