Following the successful reboot of the Music Under the Star series in 2024, the Bullock Texas State History Museum is back again with the 2025 installation of the free outdoor concert series. Guests can stop by to hear Texas artists play every Friday from 7-9 pm, starting June 6.
Music Under the Star, referring to the evening atmosphere as well as the giant star statue outside the museum's rotunda, started in 2003. Starting in 2017, it took a six-year hiatus to allow for the construction of the Texas Capitol Mall. It was a popular destination for families, who could bring camp chairs and blankets for a night of low-key fun.
"The Bullock Museum is excited to bring back the Music Under the Star series for the 2025 season" said head of public programs at the Bullock Museum Kristin Johnson in a press release. "Bring a blanket, enjoy cold drinks and food truck fare, and listen to great music by local Austin favorites!"
Although there's no formal genre requirement, the series tends to show off styles that reflect Texas, whether it's through country instrumentation, blues songwriting, or Latino traditions.
The first show on June 6 will feature Austin-based musician Luke Bulla, who plays "original folk-country-American-tinged songs" on the violin, guitar and mandolin, according to the release. The Sentimental Family Band, who won Best Country in this year's Austin Music Awards, will open.
The series continues as follows:
- June 6: Folk-country artist Luke Bulla with openers the Sentimental Family Band
- June 13: Dream pop solo artist San Gabriel with opener Pedal Steel Noah
- June 20: Tejana sister trio The Tiarras with opener Llamativa
- June 27: Versatile singer-songwriter Ian Moore with opener Brodie Lane
The series is sponsored by KUTX and the Austin Chronicle, with support from Texas Commission on the Arts.
Guests can park in the museum's underground garage for $15, and members can park for free with their membership cards. The Bullock Museum is located at 1800 N. Congress Ave.
