Urban Heat to headline benefit show at Hotel Vegas, plus more Austin music picks for early September
September is here, which means we’re getting pretty close to back-to-back weekends of ACL. Start getting your show legs under you via the following local gigs happening in the first part of the month.
Being Dead at the 13th Floor – Friday, September 1
With their excellent and recently released debut album, When Horses Would Run, in tow, colorful indie rockers Being Dead will play the 13th Floor this Friday, September 1. Openers for this Labor Day Weekend kickoff party include Christian Bland & The Revelators and The Ripe. Tickets are $13.49.
Kids At The Border Fundraiser at Hotel Vegas – Saturday, September 2
Don’t miss “Artists For The Betterment Of Kids At The Border” at Hotel Vegas this Saturday, September 2. This benefit for Border Kindness, which provides asylum-seekers, migrants, refugees, and displaced people with food, shelter, and more, has a lineup that’s packed with a variety of great acts. The lineup includes Urban Heat, Sailor Poon, Lord Friday The 13th , Norman Ba$e, and Gus Baldwin & The Stretch. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of.
Little Mazarn at Chess Club – September 5, 12, 19, 26
One of Austin’s best folk acts, Little Mazarn, has a residency lined up at Chess Club for every Tuesday in September. Each show will be $10 at the door, and support for all of the dates can be seen here:
- September 5 – Sarah Lee, Rattlesnake Milk
- September 12 – Felt Out, Ferret Noise
- September 19 – Grace Rowland, Creekbed Carter
- September 26 – Christina Carter, More Eaze
Pets Alive Benefit at Hotel Vegas – Thursday, September 7
A benefit for Austin Pets Alive is all set to happen at Hotel Vegas on Thursday, September 7. Head there to see a nice lineup that includes White Dog, Crocodile Tears, Loteria, and members of Mean Jolene performing as Josie and the Pussycats. Cover for this show is $10-$15 (depending on a sliding scale at the door).
Magna Carda at The Future Front House – Saturday, September 9
Hip hop act Magna Carda can be seen at the Future Front House on Saturday, September 9. This event is meant to celebrate two years of Future Front, which nurtures vibrant spaces, opportunities, and resources for women & LGBTQ+ creatives in Texas, and will also feature a photography exhibition and a conversation with the Eastside Riders. Tickets are $25.
Briscoe at the Scoot Inn – Friday, September 15
Upstart folk rockers Briscoe will play the Scoot Inn on Friday, September 15. The show, which will coincide with the release of their anticipated debut album West Of It All, will feature Thomas Csorba as support. Tickets are $25.
