Bruce plays album release show in church, plus more Austin music picks

Bruce will play album release show at Central Presbyterian Church.
July has arrived and the Texas summer heat is still fairly bearable, which is something to be thankful for — as is Austin’s packed local show calendar. Select recommendations for the first half of the month can be found here.
‘Hawk Dog at the Mohawk – Friday, July 4
Jump start your Fourth of July via the third annual ‘Hawk Dawg, which will get underway at 2 pm at The Mohawk. A mighty, heavy rock trio consisting of Tear Dungeon, Queen Serene, and Dregs will perform, and in between each set there will be contestants competing to see who can “guzzle the most glizzys.” If that’s not enough of a hook for you, there will also be free snow cones (while supplies last). Tickets are $20.50.
Gummy Fang at 29th St. Ballroom – Friday, July 4
After you’ve had your fill of hot dogs and flags during the day on the Fourth of July, get over to the 29th St. Ballroom at night to see indie poppers Gummy Fang, who will celebrating the release of their self-titled debut album. Important Group will open, and there’s a currently unannounced “special guest” on the bill as well. Tickets are $16.
Moving Panoramas at Hole In The Wall – Saturday, July 5
Make sure you’re at Hole In The Wall this Saturday, July 5, to see indie rock vets Moving Panoramas, who have been playing very intermittently these days as their fearless frontwoman Leslie Sisson undergoes chemo treatments. The lineup also includes Intercom Heights and Nervous Bride. Tickets are $12.76.
Good Looks at the Parish – Thursday, July 10
Earnest rockers Good Looks, who recently put out a deluxe edition of their excellent album from last year, Lived Here For A While, can be seen at the Parish on Thursday, July 10. Support for the evening includes Boomershack and Hex Boyfriend. Tickets are $23.20.
BRUCE at Central Presbyterian Church – Friday, July 11
The ever-talented singer/songwriter Carrie Fussell will ring in the release of Must Love Teeth, her debut album as Bruce, at Central Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 11. The sure-to-be dynamic show, which will feature the album performed in full, will be filmed and attendees are encouraged to toss on their “Sunday best.” Tickets range from $13.54 to $59.75.
The Stacks at Hotel Vegas – Saturday, July 12
Celebrate Jake Ames’ birthday and rock the night away with his band The Stacks at Hotel Vegas on Saturday, July 12. The show will also feature Gummy Fang and Snacks, a DJ set from Being Dead, and a round of late-night karaoke. Cover will be $12 at the door.
