L.C. Franke to play Valentine's Day show, plus more Austin music picks

January managed to feel like the longest month ever, but it’s finally done and with February comes a whole new slate of awesome shows across Austin’s music scene. Select recommendations for the first half of the month can be found here.
KOOP Birthday Party at Antone’s – Saturday, February 1
Community radio station KOOP will celebrate its 30th year of existence with a big birthday bash at Antone’s this Saturday, February 1. The genre-defying Shinyribs and soul rocker Chief Cleopatra will perform, plus there will be a silent auction and more. Tickets for the show are $30.
MIEN at the 13th Floor – Friday, February 7
Alex Maas (The Black Angels), Rishi Dhir (Elephant Stone), John-Mark Lapham (The Earlies) and Robb Kidd (Golden Dawn Arkestra) are MIEN, and they’ll be making a rare live appearance at the 13th Floor on Friday, February 7. Queen Serene will open for the psych rock supergroup. Tickets are $24.54.
Shakey Graves Day at the Paramount Theatre – Saturday, February 8
Ring in Shakey Graves Day with the second annual Shakey Graves Film Fest Awards Ceremony and Show at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, February 8. The event will feature screenings of the top entries into the film fest and a performance by Shakey Graves. Tickets range from $20-$35.
SIMS Benefit at Antone’s – Sunday, February 9
Antone’s will host a benefit show for the Sims Foundation on Sunday, February 9. The lineup is a stacked one with hip hop duo Geto Gala (Jake Lloyd and Deezie Brown) and alt-rockers Nolo, plus indie pop act Semihelix, who will be celebrating the release of a new 7-inch. Tickets are $15.
L.C. Franke at 29th Street Ballroom – Friday, February 14
Join L.C. Franke at the 29th Street Ballroom on Friday, February 14 to celebrate both Valentine’s Day and the release of his new EP, L.C. Franke Loves You Madly. The crooner, along with The Best Lil’ Orchestra in Texas, are promising a “decadent spectacle” with special surprises and guests. Single tickets are $25 but there’s also a deal to get two for $40.
The Bright Light Social Hour at The Meridian – February 14 and 15
Psych rock vets the Bright Light Social Hour are set to perform in Buda at The Meridian on back-to-back nights, February 14 and 15. Support for the first night will be provided by Starflake, and then it’ll be Cosmic Campfire Band on the second show. Tickets for each gig are $20, or you can get a weekend pass for $35.
