Bold Yogi
Austin designer's new athleisure line follows pattern of success

Austin designer Katie Kime is stretching into the world of active wear. Known for using bold prints in both her interior design and fashion lines, Kime's athleisure gear is designed to make sure yogis never get bored on the mat, no matter how many sun salutations their practice entails. "As an avid yogi, I knew I wanted to bring these [prints] in somehow," Kime says.
Included in the new line are brightly patterned leggings, as well as tank tops, pocket tees, and off-the-shoulder sweatshirts which can be customized with a personal monogram — one of Kime's signature offerings.
Perhaps because of her time on the mat, Kime paid attention to the material used for the leggings. To create the pants, the designer sourced American-made microfiber fabric with four-way stretch, which means that as the fabric stretches during a spin class tap back or a downward dog, it keeps the material from going sheer.
The new line currently comes in six prints for leggings, including the striking goddess legging which Kime first sketched on a napkin during a recent trip to Paris. "I had just been to Morocco ... and the inspiration was the African/French fusion that you find [there]."
In addition to the Katie Kime website, the athleisure line is also available for purchase at the designer's flagship store on North Lamar Boulevard. And retailing at $72, the leggings are priced to compete with other neighborhood active wear shops like Outdoor Voices and lululemon.
Says Kime: "Ultimately, we really want our happy, bold prints to be as multi-faceted as a woman's life is — her space, wardrobe, or in this case, self-care routine."
