4 chic Austinites among Southern Living's 50 Most Stylish Southerners
While it can sometimes seem that Austin's sartorial prowess is limited to flip-flops and burnt orange T-shirts, we are actually home to some pretty stylish folks. On November 2, Southern Living released the annual lineup of the 50 most stylish Southerners — and four Austinites made the cut.
The South's favorite magazine (other than Garden & Gun, of course) pointed to local fashion designer Katie Kime; Indique Hair co-founder Ericka Dotson; handbag designer Kelly Wynne; and Tecovas Fine Bootmakers founder Paul Hedrick as Southerners with style. (Former Austinite Hilary Rose Elrod was also named, but since she recently decamped to Charleston, we can't technically claim her.)
In an interview with the magazine, Kime — whose store on Lamar Boulevard specializes in home decor and fashion in bright, patterned prints — shared her personal style philosophy. "I just don't believe there are any rules about things that can or can't go together, and it's always the rooms or outfits where I've broken the most 'rules' that are my favorite," Kime told the magazine.
Eleven Texans in total were among the most stylish Southerners. In San Antonio, jewelry and interior designer Nicola Bathie McLaughlin made the list. In Dallas, interior designer Amy Berry; blogger Bradley Agather Means; designer Cristina Lynch; blogger Kate Padgitt; and shoe designers Lizzie Means Duplantis and Sarah Means also made the list. Houston's most stylish included textile designer Bailey McCarthy; and resort wear designers Katie McClure and Erin Breen.
