Vehicle Vending
Austin nabs one of the very first car vending machines in America
Now you can get practically anything out of a vending machine — including a new ride. Online shopping platform Carvana opened its first Austin vehicle vending machine on Tuesday, February 7.
"Our mission is to remove the stress and anxiety from the car buying experience and make the process fun and exciting," says Ernie Garcia. "Austin has an incredibly vibrant tech and innovation scene that aligns with Carvana's mission, so we couldn’t be more excited to bring the next Car Vending Machine to the city."
The unique apparatus — only the third of its kind in the U.S. — is located at 6014 S. I–35 near Stassney Lane. The five-story structure has three delivery bays and can hold almost 20 cars.
So how does it work? Step one is to find and purchase your new car via Carvana's website or mobile app. Next, show up at Carvana's site where a customer representative will give you a custom coin for the vending machine. For non-Austinites within a 100-mile radius, Carvana will "subsidize $200 in airfare and arrange white glove transportation from the city's airport."
If the car vending machine isn't quite your style, Carvana will still deliver your new ride for free. The growing Arizona-based company also offers trade-ins, financing, and a seven-day return policy.
Hours for Carvana's Austin vending machine are Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm.
