Austin boasts two of the smartest high schools in the U.S. — No. 1 in Texas
Two Austin high schools are at the top of the class. Westlake High School and Liberal Arts & Science Academy rank among the 10 smartest public schools in America, according to a new study.
Niche ranked 10,907 public high schools based on key achievement statistics and opinions on academics from students and parents. Westlake High School ranks No. 4, followed by Liberal Arts & Science Academy at No. 9.
Westlake shines with a 97 percent graduation rate, a composite SAT score of 2000 and a composite ACT score of 30. Liberal Arts & Science Academy has slightly higher scores than Westlake (2040 on the SAT and 31 on the ACT) and a graduation rate of 95 percent.
The schools are the only Texas representatives in the top 10. Westlake High School and Liberal Arts & Science Academy also rank first and second on Niche's list of the smartest public schools in Texas. Westwood High School ranks No. 5 on that list.
Niche recently released similar rankings for private schools. Five Austin schools landed on the list of the smartest private schools in the state.
