Austin's hottest neighborhoods are some of the greenest in the country
Some of Austin's hottest neighborhoods are among the greenest in the country. According to a new study from the real estate website Redfin, Mueller ranks as the No. 2 neighborhood in the U.S. for green homes.
Thirty-nine percent of homes for sale in the Mueller neighborhood feature "green" listings.
Thirty-nine percent of homes for sale in Mueller feature "green" listings, the same percentage as the Valley View neighborhood in Chicago, which took the top spot on the list.
To determine the top green neighborhoods, Redfin's data scientists searched through two years of home listings on Redfin.com, compiling homes with green features such as solar panels, dual-pane windows and energy-efficient appliances. The rankings are based on the proportion of green properties out of total listings in the neighborhood over the past two years.
Mueller isn't the only Austin neighborhood to land on the top 10 list. South Austin's Galindo neighborhood, part of the ever-popular 78704, took the No. 7 spot. Thirty percent of homes for sale in Galindo are considered "green" listings.
Five additional Austin neighborhoods met Redfin's "green" standard (where 10 percent or more homes for sale have "green" features), including Rosedale in Central Austin.
