Burger City
Austin named one of America's best burger cities on juicy new list
There’s nothing more American than the almighty burger. Whether you like yours with a double patty, cheese, sans mayo, or veggie (we forgive you), burgers are a staple of the national diet.
While Austin might be best known for our barbecue and taco offerings, the Capital City has a collection of juicy burger joints that have acquired some recent national press. Condé Nast Traveler released the 15 best burger cities in the U.S., as voted by readers, and we make the list.
Coming in at No. 9, Austin is a burger destination because of such favorites as Wholly Cow Burgers and the rapidly expanding Hopdoddy. Contigo gets a shout out for its “Texan-style burgers with homemade pickles and bacon,” while Swift’s Attic receives a nod for its upscale rotating burger special.
The only other Texas city on the list, Fort Worth places at No. 6 for its “seemingly larger than life” burgers. Cowtown classics — Fred’s Texas Café, Rodeo Goat, Greasy Bend, and Dutch’s Hamburgers — get a juicy nod.
Can’t get enough burgers? Oklahoma City; Myrtle Beach, Florida; and Orlando, Florida, are the top three burger destinations.
But let’s get back to Austin, the city we really care about. When you get your next craving for a burger-based meal, check out our own list of favorite cheeseburger spots in Austin.
