Best Summer 'Cue
Local barbecue favorite lands on Travel Channel's list of 10 best summer foods

Texas' famous barbecue institution Smitty’s Market has a new accolade from the Travel Channel.
Travel Channel includes the Lockhart joint on its list of the 10 Best Summer Foods 2015. A panel food and travel experts scoured the country to find the best places for summer eating, and Smitty’s Market snags the well-deserved distinction as best barbecue.
"For a purely authentic Texan barbecue experience, Smitty's, which is roughly 30 minutes south of Austin, provides it all, but not forks or sticky-sweet barbecue sauce," the article reads.
The Lockhart eatery is loved by locals and travelers alike, most notably for its big Texan traditions and even bigger Texan flavors.
"I didn’t expect that at one of the best meals of my life — and hands down the best barbecue — I would be refused a fork," Kristen Miglore of Food52.com tells the Travel Channel. Her tip? "Be sure to order the slow-smoked, fatty brisket and the sausage, wrapped up in paper by the pitmaster, and tack on a Lone Star beer at the register."
Smitty's is the only Texas destination on the list. The barbecue fave joins the likes of Bartaco in Atlanta (best bar food) and Blue Smoke on the Road in Queens, New York (best ballpark food). Check out all of the destinations here.
