4 Austin hospitals named best in Texas by U.S. News & World Report

St. David's Medical Center and three more Austin hospitals have earned bragging rights in U.S. News & World Report's newly released rankings of the Best Hospitals for 2026-2027.

Every year, U.S. News evaluates nearly 4,500 U.S. hospitals to determine which meet the publication's rigorous standards and offer the best care for patients across 14 adult specialties and 23 procedures and conditions. New to this year's batch of rankings, U.S. News introduced regional rankings in cancer; cardiology; heart and vascular surgery; orthopedics; and rehabilitation.

St. David's Medical Center ranked as the No. 1 best hospital in Austin, and it ranked as the 10th best hospital in Texas in a tie with Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital in Houston. The cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery program at St. David's also ranked as the 43rd best in the U.S.

The hospital also earned high-performing distinctions in one national specialty (geriatrics), one regional specialty (rehabilitation) and 16 procedures and conditions:

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Diabetes
• Heart Arrhythmia
• Heart Attack

• Knee Replacement
• Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma
• Pacemaker Implantation
• Pneumonia
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

Elsewhere in Austin, Ascension Seton Medical Center is the second-best local hospital for 2026-2027, and it tied with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas as the No. 16 best hospital statewide. Ascension Seton earned high-performing ratings in 12 procedures and conditions: back surgery (Spinal Fusion); chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); diabetes; ear, nose, and throat surgery; gynecological cancer surgery; heart failure; hip fracture; knee replacement; leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma; maternity care; pacemaker implantation; and stroke.

St. David's North Austin Medical Center ranked No. 3 citywide and No. 18 in Texas. One specialty (rehabilitation) and 11 procedures and conditions earned high-performing distinctions: back surgery (spinal fusion); colon cancer surgery; diabetes; gynecological cancer surgery; heart arrhythmia; heart attack; heart failure; hip replacement; kidney failure; knee replacement; and stroke.

Baylor Scott and White Medical Center Round Rock ranked No. 4 in Austin and tied with eight other Texas medical centers as the No. 21 best hospital statewide. The four procedures and conditions that earned high performing ratings include back surgery (spinal fusion); colon cancer surgery; heart arrhythmia; heart failure; hip fracture; kidney failure; pneumonia; prostate cancer surgery; stroke; and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
