According to Bon Appetit's Andrew Knowlton, Texas has more great new restaurants this year than any other state.
Knowlton released his list of 50 nominees for Best New Restaurant, and the Lone Star State has no less than seven contenders, more than either foodie-centric California (six) or so-special-it-needs-its-own-James-Beard-region New York (four).
Austin restaurants Elizabeth Street Café and Lenoir made the preliminary list, which will be honed to 10 on Aug. 14.
What makes the Austin duo stand out? Knowlton says he loves the baked-in-house breakfast pastries at Elizabeth Street Café, as well as the Vietnamese joint's "hangover-curing pho" and "oh-so-cool digs," while Lenoir is singled out for its buttermilk rabbit (Knowles advises readers to cross their fingers that it's still on the menu) as well as the "best in town" desserts and the $35 prix fixe option.
Do you think they'll both make the Top 10? Which Austin restaurants would be on your list?
