festival fever
ACL eats: Top picks for Sunday grub, from truffles to poboys
For me, ACL means two things: good music and good food. Not only does C3 bring out the big bands for the fest, they also bring out the big name restaurants. This provides the perfect opportunity to sample high-end cuisine without breaking the bank (and to see how some of the more gourmet establishments in Austin converted to festival food).
With one day left of the big 10th anniversary festival, here is the is a breakdown of what food you don’t want to miss on Sunday:
Aquarelle: Spicy Shrimp Poboy
Served on a perfectly soft and chewy roll, the crunchy slaw and spicy aioli are the perfect compliment to the lightly battered shrimp. I haven’t made it to Aquarelle for a non-festival meal yet, but it’s now high on my list.
Bess Bistro: Roasted Vegetable Black Bean Wrap
A great vegetarian option, the tortilla wrap packs away easily if you are in a rush to get up front for a favorite performer. Slightly spicy, the juicy mushrooms and bell peppers give it an almost meaty texture.
Lonesome Dove Western Bistro: Truffled Mac and Cheese
How can you go wrong when truffles are involved? You might be a little confused by the look of the dish (we are pretty sure it’s orzo) but with two spoons, neither the confusion nor the cup-sized portion lasted long.
Odd Duck Farm to Trailer: Pork Belly Slider
Tender pork belly with a paprika aioli and slaw on a bite sized roll make this a stand out option. Despite its small size, it is incredibly rich and filling; if you are starving, order two, you wont be disappointed.
