A Drinking Christmas
5 top Austin bars open on Christmas and set for a party
Now that you and kin have polished off the wassail, you might want to head out to one (or more) of these five Austin watering holes. They’re all open tonight, and they’re all keeping the Christmas party going.
The Hole in the Wall
The Hole has been hosting Christmas night karaoke since … well, for a very long time. You can hit the stage, the bar or both starting at 9pm, on till 2am on Boxing Day.
The Liberty
Christmas is nothing but a party at Liberty, which tonight features tunes by all the peoples of the Sock Hop Deejays, the Cold Lampin Crew and Breakaway Records. They hint at surprises, too. No cover, 9pm-2am.
Cheer-Up Charlies
As long as you’re east, bounce up to Cheer-Up’s, too, for their trademark family-style hospitality. They open at 8pm.
Russian House of Austin
Also east, also providing a lovely array of imbibables (and comestibles) and also open. It’s not even Russian Orthodox Christmas, so you stand a good chance of being able to act as if things are relatively normal. Snuggle up and pretend you’re trying to make it through a long, snowy winter.
Crown & Anchor Pub
Everyone’s favorite neighborhood bar (no matter what neighborhood one lives in) will be serving its trademark panoply of delicious brews, including the special seasonal and holiday varieties.
