A night with the filmmakers: Special screening of The Reconstruction of AsaCarter at Violet Crown Cinema
Film enthusiasts, CultureMap Insiders and guests gathered at Violet Crown Cinema on Wednesday, April 4 to join filmmakers Douglas Newman and Laura Browder for a private pre-screening of their documentary, The Reconstruction of Asa Carter.
The evening began with a complimentary happy hour with signature cocktails featuring Waterloo Gin and Treaty Oak Rum before moviegoers caught a special screening of the film. After the screening, guests had the opportunity to chat with the filmmakers, while enjoying another round of specialty cocktails and some light bites from Violet Crown Cinema.
Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Austin Film Society's Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund, which, Newman noted, helped fund the project that was screened on Wednesday. Applications for the 2012 fund are being accepted now.
The Reconstruction of Asa Carter is an hour-long documentary that examines the double life of Asa Carter, a radical white supremacist who penned the book The Education of Little Tree under the guise of an orphaned Native American.
The documentary is scheduled to air on KLRU-TV, as part of its Independent Lens series, on Monday, April 9 at 8:55 p.m. It will re-air on Sunday, April 15 at 5 p.m.
