Diehard fans descend on Stubb's for Red Bull Sound Select live music showcase
Music fanatics filled Stubb’s Saturday night to catch headliners the Dandy Warhols, joined by Theophilus London and Austin bands Gentlemen Rogues and the Sour Notes, for the high-energy Red Bull Sound Select Presents: Austin.
Austin was one of 10 cities included in the July showcase, designed to introduce the newest artists on the Red Bull Sound Select roster. Although the concert was free, there was a twist to get in: The artists themselves were curating the audience, so fans had to demonstrate their zeal through an online audition process to score a coveted invite.
Fueled by beer and excitement, the crowd got warmed up during sets from the two hand-selected Austin bands. Theophilus London got fans on their feet and sufficiently riled up for Dandy Warhols, who closed out the night. In addition to music, attendees browsed goods from local vendors and experimented at the futuristic photo booth.
Red Bull Sound Select is a long-term initiative that props up local music scenes and connects artists with their fans through events like the Presents concert series. Red Bull Sound Select artists — headliners and emerging local talent — perform at more than 100 shows across the U.S., including festivals like Lollapalooza.
