HAAM Benefit Day isn't until next week, but Monday night the non-profit got a jump start on its efforts to raise money for uninsured musicians. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians hosted a HAAM Benefit Day kickoff party for supporters of the annual event which gives area businesses an opportunity to donate 5 percent of the day's proceeds to the organization.
To draw in customers, musicians play at several of the participating venues. In fact, it's the one day a year you're guaranteed to find musicians playing just about everywhere—retail stores, outside stages, City Hall and more.
The kickoff party was held on the porch of ACL Live at the Moody Theater. Representatives from Whole Foods Market, the City of Austin and several other organizations were on hand to show their support and throw down some big bucks: C3 Presents (the producers of the Austin City Limits Music Festival) promised to match up to $20,000 of proceeds raised during HAAM Benefit Day, and The Texas Heritage Songwriters Association offered to match up to $10,000.
HAAM Benefit Day kicks off next Tuesday at 7 a.m. at Whole Foods Market on South Lamar. CultureMap Austin is a proud partner of HAAM Benefit Day and will be at several locations showing our support of local musicians.
