Where's the Beef, Austin?
Wendy's brings the beef to Austin in latest commerical
Look y’all, we’ve finally made it! Who needs the Longhorn Network to showcase Austin’s glory when we can have a Wendy’s commercial instead? That’s right; Austin, for better or worse, has been featured in the latest Wendy’s commercial starring one of the kids from Modern Family. Well, the ex-boyfriend of one of the kids from Modern Family.
I saw the commercial last night and thought nothing of it, but after seeing it again, I started to notice some familiar landmarks and after watching it for a third time, it became clear that the whole commercial was filmed in Austin.
The commerical follows Dylan from Modern Family around town after he buys a totally cool vintage tee that asks “Where’s the Beef?” and therefore has everyone he comes into contact with yelling the phrase at him. The majority of this takes place on South Congress where you can clearly see the Austin city line along with a glimpse of antique store, Off the Wall, which has apparently turned into a café in this commercial.
Dylan comes to terms with his newfound coolness (which by the way, I would attribute to the fact that he’s in Austin and not his new shirt), and starts prancing around town showing off said shirt. This time, he expects people to awkwardly ask him “where’s the beef?” Then, as if by magic, he somehow makes his way to a Wendy’s nowhere near South Congress that answers the question with a billboard—“here’s the beef!” And so ends Austin’s 60 seconds of fame.
But who are we kidding? While it’s always fun to see our city on television, we can rest easy knowing that we don’t need to “make it.” Austin is one of a kind and continues to be as weird as ever and that’s enough for me.
