Art world gathers to honor Blanton's most influential supporters at celebratory dinner
What: Dinner honoring Judy and Charles Tate
Where: The Blanton Museum of Art
The lowdown: Distinguished guests gathered at the Blanton Museum of Art on November 7 to honor Judy and Charles Tate of Houston. Renowned collectors, curators and artists joined distinguished members of the University of Texas community at a dinner celebrating the Tates' ongoing commitment to the museum (and the university at large), including the recent gift of their modern and contemporary Latin American art collection.
During the evening, UT President Bill Powers announced the establishment of the Judy and Charles Tate Director’s Excellence Fund, a $1 million fund named in honor of the couple. Supported by earnings from the Longhorn Network, the fund will be used to partially underwrite the reinstallation of the Blanton’s permanent collection in 2017. "This fund enables us to do the important work of re-envisioning the installation of our galleries, providing visitors opportunities to experience our permanent collection in fresh and innovative ways," said Blanton Director Simone Wicha.
