Thousands of area runners enjoyed an extra piece of guilt-free pie Thursday night. It's one of the perks of running in the 21st annual Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot.
More than 21,000 people of all ages knocked out a five-mile or one-mile run downtown Thursday morning. For many, the race is a Thanksgiving tradition.
The race, the largest five-mile run in Texas, started and ended on Riverside Drive with live music and activities for the entire family on the terrace of the Long Center for the Performing Arts. The fastest runners took home trophies shaped as...you guessed it, turkeys.
Proceeds from the race go to Caritas of Austin, a non-profit offering services and resources to those experiencing poverty. The Turkey Trot has raised $1.25 million for the non-profit in the last 20 years.
