Ash is Out
University of Texas quarterback David Ash retires from football
University of Texas at Austin quarterback David Ash is out of the game for good. On Wednesday, head coach Charlie Strong announced that Ash will retire from football after struggling with multiple concussions.
Ash's health is the No. 1 priority, said Strong in a press conference. Though he won't play again, Strong maintains that Ash will remain part of the team. "I told him I want him around the team 'cause that's what he deserves and he should be a part of this program."
The former quarterback missed most of the games in the 2013 season due to head injury. He has only played in one game during the Charlie Strong era, the season opener against the University of North Texas that UT won. Sophomore Tyrone Swoopes started as quarterback in the following two games.
UT is currently 1-2 for the season. The Longhorns play again on September 27.
