Longhorn Network on TV
See the Longhorn Network: It's like heroin, the first hit's free
Lacking much of an outlet here in Austin to cablecast their work (Grande Communications is all there is), the Longhorn Network is getting out amongst the tailgaters.
Saturday morning, the Longhorn Network will set up big screen TV's (really big, like 9 feet by 12 feet) and let anyone who cares to look have a gander.
Over the next couple of weeks, you can expect to see a full court press put on by ESPN against Time Warner Cable in order to take advantage of their exclusive airing of the Texas vs. Kansas game on October 29th.
Warning: The Longhorn Network is a pusher. Like any good heroin dealer, their intent is to get you hooked on their network, the first hit is free; and then hope you will call your local cable dealer (here in Austin that would be Time Warner Cable) and beg, plead or threaten them to carry the LHN.
Yes, the Longhorn Network is that good.
And no, this is no coincidence. Over the next couple of weeks, you can expect to see a full court press put on by ESPN against Time Warner Cable in order to take advantage of their exclusive airing of the Texas vs. Kansas game on October 29th.
ESPN knows Longhorn nation doesn't want to miss that game on TV, and they will use that against the cable guys. Look for TV ads, billboards, magazine ads—frankly it will probably be hard to miss. And it probably won't matter, those decisions are made at salary levels well above the folks here in town, but it will be entertaining.
The screens will be set up on the west side of the stadium, between gates 4 and 5, right across the street for the Texas Alumni Center—yeah, that's a coincidence (not)—and on the south side of the Mike Myers soccer stadium, in parking lot 70. The TV's get turned on at 10 am.
If you plan to go, here's what you can expect to see:
10 am LONGHORN EXTRA
10:30 am TEXAS FOOTBALL ALL-ACCESS
11:30 am GAME PLAN WITH MACK BROWN
12:30 pm TEXAS GAMEDAY (live from DKR Stadium)
After the game TEXAS GAMEDAY FINAL
