Anything is Possible 5k: Who says nothing good happens after midnight?
Oct 29, 2011 | 1:15 pm
Austin runners love a quirky race. The Gorilla Run (runners dressed as gorillas), the Naked Foot 5k (no shoes necessary) and the Keep Austin Weird 5k (costumes a must) are among the many creative races each year that attract hundreds of wacky athletes.
Fans of unconventional races have another option. The Anything is Possible 5k is next weekend, November 6, and caters to night owls who can handle staying up late...really late. The race kicks off at 1:50 a.m., the brink of daylight savings time, and is the only race you'll ever finish before you start (don't think about that too much).
One perk to running this race is knowing you don't have to wake up at 6am to participate (most races start early to ensure runners are off the streets before traffic builds). Another bonus is the guaranteed personal record you'll set. When was the last time you ever ran a 5k in negative 30 minutes?
There's only one downside to participating in a late night weekend run. You might have to curb your Saturday night alcohol intake unless you're skilled at running under the influence. Hmmmm...a rum run actually sounds like a fun idea. Looks like there are no downsides afterall!
Several cities across the country including Denver, Seattle and Atlanta will be participating in this nationwide event at the same time. High Five Events is putting on the local race which starts at The Grove at SouthPark Meadows and includes a finishers party complete with food and drink.
Registration is still open so you have time to get in on the fun. The cost is $30 with proceeds going toward Hope for the Warriors and Team Red, White and Blue; non-profits providing support for veterans returning home from combat.
