As anyone who's attended a Formula 1 event can tell you, there are tons of reasons why you'd want to watch an F1 race — atmosphere, top-tier drivers, the spectacle, people-watching, whatever. But the biggest draw undoubtedly remains the Formula 1 cars themselves. Delicate, expensive, carbon-fiber-constructed marvels of engineering, Formula One cars look and sound like nothing else on this planet. Seeing them accelerate and change direction on the 3.4-mile Circuit of the Americas track near Austin is simply spectacular. I tried to capture some of the speed and excitement of these machines — as well as a lot of fenceposts. The action shots were all taken from areas with regular, general admission access and without a super telephoto lens.
