Fashion Meets Art
Project Runway star makes artful return to Texas for 3-day fashion extravaganza
Winner of season one of Project Runway All Stars Mondo Guerra makes his anticipated return to San Antonio's McNay Art Museum. The Art of Fashion with Mondo Guerra, which runs March 21-23, is a three-day fashion extravaganza, including a VIP meet and greet with Guerra, a fashion presentation, and children’s fashion activity.
“The McNay holds a special place in my heart for everything it does to engage the San Antonio community in the many forms of visual arts — including the art of fashion,” said Guerra via a release. “Texas has a thriving fashion community that continues to grow, and I’m excited to give people an up-close look at the latest collection.”
Guerra earned admiration from the fashion world with his innovative style and bold prints. At the same time, he inspired viewers with his courage when he first revealed his HIV-positive status on Project Runway's eighth season. He was declared the winner in the debut season of Project Runway All Stars and quickly became an audience favorite as a mentor on Lifetime’s spinoff series, Under The Gunn.
“Mondo is artistic excellence personified,” said McNay Director Richard Aste. “Through his fashion and his community activism, he has empowered so many of us to find strength and beauty in our true selves, our authentic selves. It’s a privilege to have him back in San Antonio at the McNay.”
During his last visit to the McNay, on the eve of World AIDS Day in 2017, he shared his message of feeling empowered to live one’s true identity. Now he’s here to showcase the details of his design work and to mingle again with the residents of San Antonio.
To kick off the three-day extravaganza on March 21, the acclaimed designer will host an intimate VIP reception at Pearl Studio. During the following event on March 22, attendees can peek his latest collection up close. Both the designer and models will mix and mingle with guests, allowing them to see each garment’s details up close, so they can appreciate the artistry of each piece.
The weekend will end on March 23 with a special children-focused fashion activity led by Guerra. Proceeds from all events benefit the McNay Art Museum.
