Well How About That
Austin airport lands first outdoor patio and exclusive new bar and lounge
It's no secret Austin loves patios. Drenched in sweat or huddled under a heater, no matter the weather — we sit outside. Beginning May 21, travelers flying out of Austin Bergstrom-International Airport can lounge on an outdoor patio year-round as part of the brand-new Delta Sky Club.
The patio, which the airline calls a "covered sky deck," is part of a new 9,000-square-foot lounge located in the Barbara Jordan Terminal, and is open to Delta Sky Club members who are ticketed to fly on Delta that day. The lounge decor, "evokes eclectic Austin," according to a release, complete with "warm walnut surfaces, metal finishes, and rich fabrics" and artwork sourced from local and Texas-based artists.
In addition to the "covered sky deck," travelers can enjoy a full-service bar, featuring selections from the airline's master sommelier; a mezcal and tequila tasting experience; Texas-brewed beers; and rotating seasonal dishes including, of course, tacos and barbecue.
"We've put care into every detail — from the curated, local artwork to the club design to the seasonal food and beverage offerings," said Claude Roussel, managing director of Delta Sky Club, in a release. "We look forward to welcoming guests traveling through Austin — they will be wowed by the experience and incredible service."
Wowed or not, Delta Sky Club loungers can also enjoy WiFi, comfortable seating areas, and power cables at nearly every seat. Because if a tequila tasting on a patio doesn't help ease the pain of air travel, maybe binge-watching episodes of The Bachelor on your laptopwill.
Delta originally announced the new lounge in 2018 in conjunction with the Austin Chamber of Commerce.
"From our strong operational performance to adding new routes, Delta is committed to serving the residents and business community of Austin," said Delta VP Erick Snell at the time. "As a part of the airline's efforts to enhancing customers' experience in Austin, this club will give guests a new space where they can relax during their travel."
