ABIA Takes off
Austin-Bergstrom deemed one of America's best airports by savvy travelers
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has landed a top honor as one of the best airports in the country. The travel hub ranks No. 5 on Travel + Leisure's list of best domestic airports.
T+L's savvy readers determined the winners as part of the magazine's "World's Best Awards." Readers rated airports based on criteria such as location/access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping and design.
It's no surprise that ABIA has charmed travelers: It's brimming with local flavor, including many of Austin's iconic restaurants and retailers.
With options like The Salt Lick, Maudie's Tex-Mex, Amy's Ice Creams and Austin Java, travelers get a taste of local cuisine without leaving the terminal. Popular Austin stores, like BookPeople and Waterloo Records, are peppered throughout the airport. And true to the "Live Music Capital of the World," there are six music venues at ABIA.
This is ABIA's first time on the list. Dallas Love Field also makes its debut at No. 4.
Portland International Airport ranks No. 1, followed by Tampa International Airport at No. 2 and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport at No. 3.
